Well Plugging & Abandonment Planning

In preparation for a 70-well offshore P&A campaign, Beacon West performed a comprehensive review of available well records and developed a program for monitoring annulus pressures while preparing procedures for well plugging and abandonment.  The team’s work included:

  • Compiling well histories, well bore diagrams, and identifying potential challenges to P&A operations

  • Installing gauges on annuli to monitor wells and record pressures, if present

  • Prioritizing well P&A sequence based on well configuration and monitoring records

  • Preparing the abandonment program including recommendations concerning caprock restoration, cement logs, cement composition, and mechanical plug preferences, and approach to fishing operations, if needed

  • Preparing bid packages for services including conductor pulling operations.

  • Developing budget estimates for each well

  • Preparing P&A program documentation for regulatory approval

  • Establishing routines for program / cost optimization throughout the work campaign.
