Platform Grace Decommissioning Preparation
Beacon West Energy Group is immensely proud of its role in providing engineering support during the preparation of decommissioning Platform Grace, working seamlessly with Chevron plus a vast array of specialty contractors toward achieving this common goal. Located in 320’ of water, approximately 10.5 miles from the Ventura coast and 10 miles from the Channel Islands, Platform Grace produced for 38 years generating nearly 9 million barrels of oil and over 22 million cubic feet of gas during its productive life as part of the Santa Clara Unit in the Santa Barbara Channel.
The Beacon West team supported ongoing platform maintenance, monitoring activities in support of well plugging and abandonment and conductor removal operations. Extensive decommissioning work included clearing the platform of hydrocarbons, providing platform support during the permanent sealing of all wells, cleaning and purging vessels and piping, removing out of service equipment, and installing jacket-protection corrosion anodes. A solar-powered camera and sensor system was installed to support the ongoing continuous surveillance and monitoring.
Beacon West prepared the necessary maintenance and security plans, coordinating with Chevron and regulatory agencies, including the APCD, BSEE, USCG, and EPA, to obtain required approvals.
